SUPPORT GROUPS

Adult grief and bereavement support groups are free and confidential. Each group is facilitated by a LCSW, LPC, or trained volunteers. Groups are held weekly in Baton Rouge, Gonzales, and Central.

 

Support groups for children and teenagers with corresponding groups for parents are offered twice a year in the spring and fall. The groups are a free service.

Please note that all active support groups are held via Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic (as of June 2020) . GRCBR Support Groups offer a safe environment for grievers to take effective and lasting action, no matter the type of loss experienced, through shared giving and receiving of support, validation, as well as suggestions for coping. All groups are offered free of charge.

Group description: The GRCBR Monday Evening Support Group is a small group of individuals dealing with both grief/loss and mental health issues. The group is composed of adults (18+) of all ages and professions. This group has an open communication style that focuses on the needs of members that week, and no one is required to share. The group is open to all and meets every Monday at 6:30 pm.

Group description: The GRCBR Tuesday Noon Support Group is a group of individuals, primarily older adults coping with grief for an extended period of time. This group has an interactive grief processing style with prompts and directives to guide each meeting. No one is required to share. The group is open to all and meets each Tuesday at noon.

Group description: The GRCBR Tuesday Evening Support Group is a group of individuals dealing with compounded, complicated and/or complex grief. Members have typically experienced multiple losses within a short span of time including the loss of family members (children/siblings/parents/extended family). Those experiencing this type of grief can experience a heightened experience of the losses and have difficulty moving forward or focusing on anything besides the loss(es). This group has an open communication style that focuses on the needs of members that week. No one is required to share.The group is composed of adults (18+) of all ages and professions. The group is open to all.

Group description: The GRCBR Thursday Widow and Widowers Support Group is a group of individuals who have lost a spouse, significant other or partner. This group has a very interactive style that focuses on the needs of members that week. No one is required to share.The group is composed of mid-life and older adults (typically 50+ but not a requirement) and open to anyone whose spouse or romantic partner died.

Group Name: Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Support Group (CURRENTLY ACTIVE)

Group description: The Survivors of Suicide (SOS) Group is a free, weekly support group for any adult (18+) who has lost someone to suicide. The group meets every Thursday from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm. and is open to all who are living with this type of loss.

Group description: The GRCBR Adolescents with Family Addiction/Alcoholism Support Group is for adolescents ages 10-14 who have an immediate family member or caretaker with addiction(s) and/or alcoholism. The group will be a space to share experiences and connect with other teens going through a similar experience. The Parent Support Group will run at the same time/day and is a requirement for a parent(s)/caregiver that send an adolescent(s) to participate in the group. The group will have a directive element with time to share on the needs of members that week, no one is required to share.The group is composed of adolescents (ages 10-14) and parents (any age), the group is open to those who are living with these issues within their family of origin.

Children & Teen Support Groups

Grief Recovery Center will hold a free 6-week grief support group for students who are working through grief due to the death of a parent. This interactive group will focus on growth and developing healthy coping strategies through the grief process. Parents and/or caregivers are strongly urged to attend the corresponding parents group to learn how to help their children during their grief process.

 

Grieve at your own pace.  Heal in your own time.

Family Counseling Services

 

Counseling services are available for families who are suffering grief or loss.


Fees based on sliding scale or uninsured client program available for those that qualify. Private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid are accepted.
